The standard amongst industry leaders

Braam Beyers
"For me, food and beverage come down to three key elements: Sourcing the best product, delivering exceptional service and presenting it in an elegant, considered way. Ceremony Matcha embodies all three. There is a clear dedication to understanding the origin of matcha, respecting its preparation, and presenting it with a refined, modern sensibility. Beyond enjoying their beverages, I consistently incorporate Ceremony Matcha into my dessert work, from whipped cheesecake and matcha ganache to filled choux — because of its purity, balance and reliability as an ingredient. Ceremony Matcha is, quite simply, my standard."

"I’ve always been selective about matcha. From the perspective of a chef, it has to tick three boxes. Origin, integrity & flavour. Ceremony ticks all three. They understand that matcha is more than a trend, they deeply respects the roots of the ritual, the agricultural craftsmanship from leaf to tea, and have gone straight to the source for us all to participate in this ancient, sacred ritual. This level of attention & devotion to quality reflects a seriousness that I look for as a quality control freak when procuring anything for myself or my clients."

Frequently Asked Questions

Matcha is finely stone-ground green tea powder made from shade-grown tea leaves. Unlike traditional tea, where leaves are steeped and then discarded, matcha is whisked directly into water (or milk, in modern applications) and consumed in its entirety. This means you enjoy all the benefits of the leaf’s nutrients, antioxidants, and natural energy.

Green tea is typically brewed by steeping leaves in hot water before discarding them. Matcha, on the other hand, is made from whole tea leaves that have been stone-ground into a fine powder and whisked into liquid. Because you consume the entire leaf, matcha offers a more concentrated flavour, a deeper green colour, and higher levels of antioxidants and other beneficial compounds.

Yes. Matcha naturally contains caffeine, but it is experienced differently from caffeinated coffee. Thanks to the presence of L-theanine, an amino acid found in shade-grown tea leaves, the caffeine in matcha is released more gradually, supporting a calmer, steady focus without the sharp spikes and crashes often associated with coffee.

High-quality matcha should taste rich and smooth, with a natural sweetness. Expect notes of sweet grass, gentle umami, and a natural creaminess with very little bitterness. A bright green colour is another strong indicator of freshness and quality.

Traditionally, matcha is whisked with warm water using a bamboo whisk until smooth and lightly frothy. It can also be enjoyed with milk as a matcha latte, blended into smoothies, or used in cooking and baking. At Ceremony, we recommend enjoying matcha after food rather than on an empty stomach.

Ceremony Matcha is sourced directly from Japan and carefully selected for its quality and flavour. We focus on high-grade ceremonial matcha that is smooth, balanced, and easy to enjoy as part of a daily ritual. Beyond the product itself, Ceremony is about slowing down and creating intentional moments. Small rituals that bring calm focus and presence into the everyday. Our founder, Mikayla McClean, has been drinking matcha since 2014. Read her story here.
